While there isn’t technically such a thing as a “Hull beach holiday”, there are certainly coastal towns with beaches nearby. Some of those are in relatively obvious and “touristic” seaside resorts along the Yorkshire Coast. Others, though, very much merit the “hidden gem” label.

5 Great Beaches to Visit Near Hull 

While we’re talking about owning a static caravan at our site, we might as well point out that we are a mere half-hour drive away from Hull. That’s convenient for travelling into the city to experience attractions like award-winning aquarium The Deep, as well as the historic Old Town, the marina, and brilliant entertainment, arts, and dining scenes. 

A great beach is arguably one of the few things Hull doesn’t offer. Still, if you’re desperate for sun, sea, and sand, these beaches can all be excellent substitutes: 

  • Hornsea Beach 

Hornsea is hardly the “middle of nowhere”, having been a popular seaside town since the 19th century. Still, it doesn’t tend to get mentioned as often as the likes of Bridlington and Scarborough. So, technically its Blue Flag beach can be deemed a “hidden gem” of sorts. 

With its long sandy and shingle shores, Hornsea presents a classic British seaside experience. It’s a great beach for family-friendly activities like sandcastle building and swimming. Or why not simply stroll along the bustling promenade and enjoy the coastal views? 

  • Mappleton Beach 

Situated only about five miles – a nine-minute drive – from Aldbrough Leisure Park, and half an hour from Hull by car, the wide and sandy Mappleton Beach lends itself well to long walks. Note: it’s open to dogs all year round, so you might be tempted to bring your pooch along. 

This beach – located in front of the East Yorkshire village of the same name – has long been a magnet for fossil hunters, due to the eroding soft boulder clay cliffs. However, it makes just as much sense as a peaceful and quiet beach at which to simply relax and enjoy the scenery. 

  • Bridlington North Beach 

You’ll be driving for about 50 minutes – or 26 miles – to get to Bridlington, whether directly from Hull or your holiday home at Aldbrough Leisure Park. 

Between the popular East Yorkshire resort’s North and South beaches, the former is more “developed”. As you might expect, it’s a lively part of town, with amusements, arcades, and funfairs close at hand, and an Edwardian promenade lined with cafes and shops. You’ll also find plenty of food stalls, ice cream parlours, and places to get fish and chips. 

  • Bridlington South Beach 

If North Beach is the place to go for that classic, busy seaside holiday feel, South Beach is well-suited to those who wish to take things at a slightly slower pace. It’s a great location, for example, for children to paddle and play. 

This particular beach offers a long stretch of golden sand – perfect for sunbathing, building sandcastles, and gentle walks. In fact, it’s over a mile long. You won’t be very far away from essential amenities, either – the Princess Mary Promenade is lined with cafes and shops. 

  • Spurn Head Beach 

Not exactly a conventional beach, Spurn Head is a narrow, constantly changing sand and shingle spit, located at the mouth of the Humber Estuary. Approximately 31 miles from Hull, it’s part of the Spurn National Nature Reserve, known for its rich birdlife and maritime past. 

Although this beach is a popular spot for walking and wildlife spotting, it’s not suitable for swimming, due to the strong currents. It’s also crucial to bear in mind that the narrowest parts can be engulfed by the sea at high tide. So, you should always check tide times before visiting, mindful of the risk of getting cut off from the mainland. 

A Hull Beach Break May Not Be Possible – But Your Dream Holiday Home Could Be!
